Caring for Your Teeth While Using Invisalign®

Caring for Your Teeth While Using Invisalign®

Invisalign® is a quick, convenient, and, most importantly, discrete way of straightening your teeth. If you've been considering cosmetic dentistry in Edmonton for teeth straightening but didn't like the idea of traditional braces, then Invisalign® could be perfect for you.

While Invisalign® is a great way to care for your teeth by making them straighter, you also can't forget to take care of your smile over the course of your treatment. At Westmount Dental Centre, a West Edmonton Dentist, we always make sure that our patients know how to properly care for their teeth while using Invisalign®. Brushing and Flossing Your Teeth Compared to traditional orthodontic methods, Invisalign® makes it a breeze to brush and floss your teeth. Because the Invisalign® braces available from Edmonton dentists are removable, you can take them out whenever you eat in order to prevent bits of food from becoming stuck in them. Invisalign® braces can also be taken out when you are getting ready to brush your teeth. The same recommended brushing habits apply whether you are using Invisalign® or not, so make sure you are brushing at least twice a day, using fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Brushing after each meal, if you have the opportunity, is also a good idea. At the very least, try to swish some water around in your mouth after eating. Flossing, while highly recommended by dentists in Edmonton, can be a frustrating and time-consuming task with traditional braces. With Invisalign®, however, flossing can be carried on as normal. Though faster than flossing with braces, you should still take your time to make sure you floss each tooth, and to floss from each tooth tip gently down to the gumline. Cleaning Your Invisalign® Trays A big part of caring for your teeth while using Invisalign® is to properly clean your Invisalign® trays as well. Not cleaning your aligners will allow plaque and dry saliva to create a breeding ground for bacteria, and may even cause them to become discolored. Every time you remove your aligners, try to give them a rinse to wash saliva and plaque bacteria away. You can clean your Invisalign® trays by brushing them gently with some water and a soft toothbrush. Don't brush too hard, as it is possible to scratch them. You can also clean your aligners by soaking them in denture cleaner or in the official Invisalign® cleaner. Don't hesitate to ask your Edmonton dentist about all of your Invisalign® cleaning options. West Edmonton Dentist Providing Invisalign® As you can see, Invisalign® not only has unparalleled benefits when it comes teeth straightening, but it also makes it easy to take care of your teeth over the course of treatment. If you commit to regular brushing and flossing, you'll finish treatment with a straight and bright smile. As an Edmonton family dentist, Westmount Dental Centre is committed to providing the right dental services for the whole family. Don't hesitate to get in touch with Westmount Dental Centre today to find out if Invisalign® is right for you.
