Westmount Dental Centre Represented at Free Dental Camp to Nepalese Community
At Westmount Dental Centre, we take pride in being a West Edmonton dentist that gives back to our community. Our commitment to the community was demonstrated by one of our very own Edmonton dentists, Dr. Pawan Nyachhyon, at a free Dental Camp for children aged two to 12 from the Edmonton Nepalese community on October 22nd, 2017.
This fantastic initiative was organized by the We and the World Centre, the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine, and the Hindu Society of Alberta. It would not have been possible without a dedicated team of volunteers and an organizing team led by Dr. Nyachhyon himself.
The Dental Camp, which was open to families who had been residing in Alberta for two or more years, was a huge success. Thirty-three participants came to the Hindu Society of Alberta's Cultural Centre for a free dental checkup and dental health assessment by an Edmonton kids dentist.
The Hindu Society of Alberta is a cultural institute that seeks to serve individual within the broader Hindu community and to strengthen relations among all members of the Edmonton community. Their goals are very well aligned with those of the We and The World Centre, which likewise seeks a compassion-driven approach to improving the quality of life for diverse communities across the province.
Dr. Nyachhyon was proud to partner with organizations that are committed to making a positive impact on a project specifically dedicated to helping children. As an Edmonton dentist at Westmount Dental Centre, Dr. Nyachhyon loves helping patients achieve a healthy and long-lasting smile. He received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1998 at the University of Sindh and is today an active member of the Alberta Dental Association and the Canadian Dental Association.
Charitable health initiatives such as the free Dental Camp are a crucial part of raising community awareness about the importance of dental care for children. Going for a routine examination and teeth cleaning in Edmonton can help set the foundation for a lifetime of good dental health.
Children first begin to receive their primary teeth at around six months. Though these teeth eventually fall out, they can impact the health of the permanent teeth that follow. For example, alignment issues and cavities in the primary teeth usually lead to alignment issues and cavities in permanent teeth. Healthy primary teeth ensure that a child is able to chew and speak properly as well.
Special care must also be paid to a child's dental health between the ages of six and 12, when the permanent teeth are erupting. Because the mouth contains a mix of both primary and permanent teeth during this time, it can put the child at an increased risk of cavities. Good oral hygiene habits and regular visits to a dentist can ensure that your child's smile stays happy and healthy.
